Keeping Your Property Snake-Free

Keeping Your Property Snake-Free
Are snakes invading your yard?
Are you concerned with the safety of your family?
Would you like peace of mind when your children play outside?
Coming face to face with a live snake that isn’t behind glass at a zoo is what most of us would call a nightmare. Most of us, with the exception of some strange individuals like our snakes far away. It’s fun to watch them on TV, but it isn’t fun to find one hiding behind the TV.
What can you do to deter those scary, silent, slithery snakes from coming near you and your family?
My name is Neil and I’ve spent the better part of two decades as a professional surveyor in North Queensland. My job involves a lot of bush walking in remote areas. My treks over hills covered in lantana, wading in estuaries and low country plagued by guinea grass and pushing my way through thick scrub have given me more than my fare share of memorable close encounters with snakes.
Over the years I’ve developed a healthy respect and appreciation for snakes. I understand they play a role in the ecosystem; I just don’t want them playing that role near me!

I figured I can’t be the only person on this planet with a healthy dose of scaredy-pants when it comes to snakes, so in 2015 I starting developing and improving products to keep others safe from snakes. I’m excited to share these products with you. There are several layers of protection that you can take advantage of and they are all available here at Snakesaway.
All the products come with a 12 month warranty. You will also get free, friendly and helpful support from me 7 days a week. Now is probably a good time to mention that I am not a snake catcher. If you have a snake in your home, threatening your family, a quick google search for “snake catcher (your town)” will give you a list of names or companies that will wrangle a snake for you.
My goal is for you to never be in that position in the first place. Keeping snakes a good, safe distance away from you and your family is what I can help you with.
These devices employ a simple but effective method of deterring snakes. They emit sound vibrations through the ground that snakes find very uncomfortable to be around. Snakes don’t hear sound like you or I. Instead they pick up vibrations through the ground that they detect as sound.
Snakes don’t like to be around high activity areas where machines, animals, humans, etc are making a lot of noise and the snake repellent device creates the same effect as a high activity environment by use of the sound vibrations. ADVANTAGES OF THE SNAKE REPELLER

Having a pair of bite-proof gaiters strapped to your lower legs could mean the difference between life and death.
The Snakeprotex gaiters are light-weight, affordable and very durable.
A tough outer cover gives protection from snakes, sticks, vines and other spikey vegetation. This houses several other layers or ‘membranes’ that ensure fangs and venom won’t get to you.
Stiffening strips keep the gaiters from sagging down your legs, a clip holds the zipper down and a tough, leather boot strap keeps them in position even when walking through the thickest scrub.
Snake gaiters are perfect for the outdoor man or woman wanting to stay safe in the great outdoors.

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF A SNAKE BITE
Australia is home to some of the deadliest snakes on the planet. Browns, taipans and death adders just to name a few. A bite from a taipan can leave you in some serious trouble in as little as 10 minutes. In Australia alone there are over 3000 recorded snake bites each year! Luckily only a couple of these prove fatal. If you are unfortunate enough to be bitten by a snake there are a few things you need to know. First of all, you need to forget a lot of the myths out there regarding snake bite treatment. This includes sucking the venom from the wound, washing the wound and cutting the wound to bleed the venom out. DO NOT do any of these. The steps you should follow for snake bite treatment are as follows: |
- Dial 000
- Apply a pressure bandage, starting at the wound and covering the entire limb. Click here for a detailed description of how to apply a bandage.
- Immobilise the limb and the patient. (The venom spreads through the lymph system. The more the patient moves, the faster it spreads.)
- Keep the patient calm until emergency services arrive.
- If possible, identify the type of snake to the medical team. If you’re not sure, don’t falsely identify the snake! Incorrect anti-venom can cause serious harm.
- Don’t try and catch or kill the snake. Just let it leave and avoid further injuries.
